My birthday was July 1st and I tried to make sure it was easy on the earth.
Before my birthday my husband took me to Frisco, Texas. It was a pretty eco-friendly themed trip. We ate mostly at Whole Foods or Chipotle with a two meals at Cheesecake factory.
We also went to stores that carry organic clothing and saw Food Inc. We recycled as we always do on trips and all that good stuff.
The day before my birthday my in-laws took me to my favorite local restaurant which serves real food, has real dishes and cloth napkins. My in-laws gave me a recycled card and money which I used at Etsy.com, on an organic shirt and other natural products.
On my birthday my husband and I went to Norman. We did some shopping at my favorite natural food store and a store that has organic clothing. Also ate at a local restaurant that serves organic and natural food.
The day after my birthday my parents took me out to eat at the same restaurant I went to with my in-laws (what can I say, I love that place). My parents gave me an organic cotton/hemp tote for all my gardening tools, a book (not green other than it's one I will read over and over), and a Wii game (also not green but again one I knew I wanted so I will use it a lot). My brother got me "In Defense Of Food" Michael Pollan.
I also got a gift card to Native Roots Market in Norman, OK from my friend, she also gave me a recycled card. :)
Overall it was a great birthday and very eco-friendly.
How To Green Your Own Birthday:
- Ask family and friends to buy you eco-friendly gifts.
- Ask family and friends to use reusable packaging and/or recycled to wrap your gifts, or skip the wrapping all together.
- If you don't "need" more stuff ask people to donate to a cause in your name.
- Celebrate at home with local and organic food or out at a restaurant that uses real dishes and serves real food or better yet organic food.
- If traveling try and stay within driving distance.
- If having a party send out e-invites.
- Give e-thank you cards.

You forgot to mention that I re-used a gift bag for your gifts (I think it's one you gave me at some point!) and put Chris' gift in with mine instead of him wrapping it separately. Btw, was the book "Omnivore's Dilemma" or "In Defense of Food"???
haha yeah, and it was In Defense of Food. This is why I get for trying to hurry through a post. :)
Lisa - don't know if I commented before, but here's a belated Happy Birthday. It's funny, I think we just missed one another in Frisco. My sister lives in a neighboring community and took me there to shop and eat, and we even visted a large gourmet/somewhat natural grocery store called (I think) Central Market.
